Privacy Policy

TheLoopAsia ("we," "us," "our") is operated by Blue Connector Pte Ltd, a Singapore-incorporated company. This policy explains what information we collect through theloop.asia and our related channels (podcast distribution, newsletter, YouTube channel), how we use it, and your choices. It is written to comply with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

1. Information We Collect

  • Newsletter signups: name and email address, provided voluntarily when you subscribe.
  • Contact form submissions: name, email address, and any message content you submit via the Contact Us page.
  • Event registrations: name and email address. If we build out dedicated event registration functionality (e.g. requiring company name or accessibility needs), we'll update this section to match.
  • Website usage data: we use Google Analytics and Odoo's built-in privacy-focused analytics (Plausible-based) to understand how visitors use the site — pages viewed, general location, device type, and referral source. See Section 2A for how Google Analytics specifically works and your choices around it.

2. How We Use Google/YouTube Data (Google API Services User Data Policy)

TheLoopAsia's YouTube channel is managed in part through the YouTube Data API and YouTube Analytics API. This section specifically discloses that usage, as required by Google's API Services User Data Policy.

  • What we access: channel statistics (subscriber count, view count, video count), video listings and metadata (titles, descriptions, tags), playlist management (creating playlists and assigning videos to them) for the official TheLoopAsia YouTube channel, and aggregate channel/video performance data (views, watch time, traffic sources, audience demographics at an aggregate level) via the YouTube Analytics API.
  • Why: this access supports our own internal content operations — tracking channel performance, keeping video metadata current, organising content into playlists, and understanding how our episodes perform so we can plan future content. It does not access, read, or act on any other YouTube user's account or data — only TheLoopAsia's own channel.
  • Who can access it: only Jon Scheele and authorised Blue Connector personnel/systems acting on behalf of the TheLoopAsia channel.
  • Storage and retention: Authentication credentials are stored securely on our internal infrastructure and are not shared with any third party. We do not store copies of YouTube video content itself.
  • We do not: sell this data, share it with third parties for advertising purposes, or use it for any purpose beyond TheLoopAsia's own channel management and performance reporting.
  • Compliance: our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2A. Cookies and Analytics

We use two analytics services on theloop.asia:

  • Odoo's built-in analytics (Plausible-based), which is cookie-light and does not track you individually across sites.
  • Google Analytics, which uses cookies to help us understand aggregate visitor behaviour (pages viewed, time on site, general location, referral source). Google Analytics may collect and process data outside Singapore, including in the United States.

On your first visit, a cookie banner lets you choose "Only essentials" or "I agree" — Google Analytics only loads if you agree. You can review the categories of cookies we use on our Cookie Policy page, and change your choice at any time by clearing your cookies and revisiting the site.

You can also opt out of Google Analytics tracking using Google's browser opt-out add-on, or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings to block third-party cookies. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google itself handles this data.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To send the newsletter you signed up for, and to respond to messages sent via the contact form.
  • To follow up on event registrations.
  • To operate and improve the TheLoopAsia site and channel.
  • Contact information may be added to our CRM (Odoo) for relationship management; you can request removal at any time — see Section 7.
  • Since TheLoopAsia is operated by Blue Connector Pte Ltd, contact information collected through TheLoopAsia (newsletter subscribers, contact form submissions) may also be used to inform Blue Connector's own marketing and business development — for example, identifying which Blue Connector services might be relevant to you based on your industry, role, or company. This is not a disclosure to a third party — Blue Connector is the same organisation operating both. You can opt out of this at any time — see Section 7.

4. Third Parties We Share Data With

We use the following service providers to operate TheLoopAsia. Each processes relevant data only to provide their service to us:

  • Odoo — website hosting and CRM/contact management.
  • SendGrid — newsletter and transactional email delivery.
  • Google / YouTube — video hosting, channel management, and analytics, as described in Sections 2 and 2A.
  • Spotify, Apple Podcasts — podcast distribution.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Some of these providers (SendGrid, Google) process data outside Singapore, including in the United States — see Section 8 for more on cross-border transfers.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold, including access limited to authorised personnel and encrypted credential storage for third-party integrations.

6. How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep personal data only as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected for:

  • Newsletter subscribers: for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we remove your profile from active sending within 90 days, but keep a record that you opted out indefinitely — so we don't accidentally re-add you later.
  • Contact form submissions: up to 24 months after your last message to us, unless it leads to an ongoing relationship (in which case Section 3's CRM handling applies).
  • CRM contacts: for as long as there's a genuine business relationship or active prospect relevance. Contacts with no engagement for an extended period are periodically reviewed and removed.
  • Event registrations: kept as part of our historical records of who's engaged with TheLoopAsia over time, with no fixed deletion date. You can ask us to delete your event registration data at any time — see Section 7.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Under Singapore's PDPA, you may:

  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link in any email we send.
  • Withdraw consent for us to collect, use, or disclose your personal data.
  • Request access to, or correction of, the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request that we stop using or delete your personal data, subject to any legal or legitimate business reasons we may need to retain it.

8. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Some of our service providers (Google, SendGrid) are based outside Singapore and may process your data in other countries, including the United States. Where this happens, we rely on those providers' own data protection commitments and standard contractual safeguards to ensure your data receives a comparable standard of protection to what PDPA requires.

9. Children's Privacy

TheLoopAsia is a business-to-business publication for a professional technology-leadership audience. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and none of our content is directed at or intended for children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
